If you work in the Cumberland area, at The Battery, near Truist Park, Cumberland Mall or the Galleria office towers, the shortest commutes come from Vinings and Smyrna, where a typical weekday morning drive is about 8 to 22 minutes. Marietta, East Cobb and West Midtown tend to run about 14 to 35 minutes. Mableton, Kennesaw, Austell and Powder Springs offer lower prices, but the typical morning drive can stretch to 45 minutes to an hour.

The Cumberland area sits where I-75 and I-285 meet on the northwest side of the metro, and it has grown into one of Cobb County’s biggest job centers. Along with The Battery and the Galleria towers, the area includes corporate offices along Cumberland Parkway and Paces Ferry Road, including The Home Depot’s headquarters. That location is a big part of the appeal, because it sits between intown Atlanta and the Cobb suburbs. It is also why the drive depends so much on which interstate you need.

I work with buyers across Metro Atlanta, including relocation buyers who are weighing Cobb County against intown neighborhoods for a job on this side of town. The numbers below are where I would start.

Typical morning drive times to The Battery and Cumberland

These are Google’s typical drive times for a weekday departure at 8 a.m. to Truist Park, checked in October 2026. Each range runs from a good morning to a bad one, and offices along Paces Ferry Road or the Galleria may be a few minutes closer or farther. The median sale prices come from the market data on each area page.

Two things stand out. First, West Midtown has one of the narrowest ranges on the list, because the morning trip heads outbound on I-75, against the heaviest traffic. Second, Kennesaw and the southwest Cobb cities have a much wider range. They are not far in miles, but the main routes in, including I-75 south, the East-West Connector and the I-285 interchange, tend to back up in the morning, and that is where the extra time comes from.

Getting to Cumberland without a car

MARTA rail does not reach Cumberland or The Battery. CobbLinc, Cobb County’s bus system, serves the area, including a transfer center near Cumberland Mall. Routes change, so I would check the current CobbLinc maps before you plan your housing search around transit.

For a lot of people who work here, the realistic options are a short drive or a bike ride. Parts of Smyrna and Vinings are close enough to bike, and the Silver Comet Trail and the Cumberland area trail network make that easier than it sounds. If that matters to you, I look closely at which side of a neighborhood a home sits on.

How I would narrow it down

If you want the shortest commute and a neighborhood with its own restaurants and shops, Smyrna and Vinings are where I would start. Smyrna gives you a lower median and a wider mix of homes. My guides to Smyrna and Vinings go deeper on both.

If you want a larger lot or a specific school district, Marietta and East Cobb are often the next step out, and both stay within about 35 minutes on a typical morning. My guides to Marietta and East Cobb cover what each one offers.

If you want to keep your price point lower, Mableton tends to give you the shortest commute of the more affordable options. My Mableton guide covers what is selling there now. If you are thinking about selling a home in Cobb County as part of a move, my posts on what Smyrna homes are worth and what Marietta homes are worth break down recent sales.
