Where to Live If You Work at the Atlanta Airport: Commute Times and Home Prices for 2026

Typical morning drive times to Hartsfield-Jackson from 10 nearby areas, MARTA rail options and median home prices to help you choose where to live.

If you work at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the easiest commutes come from Hapeville, College Park, East Point and Union City, where a typical weekday morning drive is about 4 to 18 minutes. College Park and East Point also have stations on MARTA’s Red and Gold lines, which end inside the airport’s domestic terminal. If you want a newer house or more land, Fayetteville, South Fulton and Stockbridge tend to run about 18 to 40 minutes, and Peachtree City and McDonough stretch to about 45 or 50 minutes on a bad morning.

The airport is one of the largest employment centers in Georgia, and it is more than a terminal. Airline operations, cargo, hotels, logistics and the companies clustered around it all pull workers from the south side of the metro. A lot of those jobs also run on shifts, which changes the commute math. A 5 a.m. start or an overnight shift misses the worst traffic, but it also makes transit less useful, because train frequency is lower outside peak hours.

I grew up in East Point, so this part of town is personal for me. I also work with buyers across Metro Atlanta, including relocation buyers who need to be close to the airport and have not yet seen the neighborhoods around it.

Typical morning drive times to the airport

These are Google’s typical drive times for a weekday departure at 8 a.m. to the airport, checked in October 2026. Each range runs from a good morning to a bad one, and your terminal, parking lot or work site can add time. The median sale prices come from the market data on each area page.

What stands out here is how much the airport commute works in your favor compared with the rest of the metro. Most of the traffic on I-75 and I-85 in the morning is headed into the city, and a lot of airport commuters are driving with it or across it in shorter hops. That is why intown neighborhoods like West End and Grant Park can still reach the airport in under 25 minutes on a typical morning.

Getting to the airport without a car

MARTA’s Red and Gold lines both end at Airport station, which is connected to the domestic terminal. Heading north from the airport, the next stops are College Park, East Point, Lakewood/Fort McPherson, Oakland City and West End. If you live within walking distance of one of those stations, you can skip airport employee parking altogether.

Trains run less often early in the morning and late at night, so if you work an early or overnight shift, check the current MARTA schedule against your start time before you plan around rail. Your employer may also run its own shuttles from employee lots, which can change which neighborhood makes the most sense.

How I would narrow it down

I would start with your shift. If you work standard hours and want to take the train, I would look first at homes near College Park, East Point and West End stations. If you work early mornings and drive, almost anything inside about 20 minutes will feel easy, and that opens up Union City, Hapeville and the west side of East Point.

If you want a newer house, a bigger lot or a specific school district, Fayetteville and Peachtree City in Fayette County and the Henry County cities are where a lot of airport workers end up. The tradeoff is time. A 40-minute drive five days a week adds up, so I like to drive it with buyers before they commit. My guides to Fayetteville and Peachtree City cover the housing and the lifestyle.

If you want to stay close and keep your price point down, my guides to East Point, College Park and Hapeville are a good place to start. If you are looking at East Point, my post on what East Point homes are worth right now breaks down recent sales by property type.

Airport commute FAQs

What is the best area to live near the Atlanta airport?

For the shortest commute, Hapeville, College Park and East Point are closest, with typical morning drives of about 4 to 12 minutes. Union City is close behind. For a newer house or more land, Fayetteville and Stockbridge are within about 40 minutes on a typical morning.

Can you take MARTA to work at the airport?

Yes. The Red and Gold lines both end at Airport station, which connects to the domestic terminal. College Park, East Point, Lakewood/Fort McPherson, Oakland City and West End stations are all a few stops away.

How long is the commute from Peachtree City to the airport?

Google’s typical weekday morning range is about 24 to 45 minutes, mostly on Highway 74 and I-85.

Is it noisy living near the airport?

Some streets near the airport hear more aircraft noise than others, depending on the flight paths and runway in use. I would visit a home at different times of day and check the airport’s published noise information before making an offer.

Are these commute times accurate for shift workers?

These ranges are for an 8 a.m. weekday departure. Early morning and overnight shifts tend to see lighter traffic, while afternoon shift changes can overlap with the evening rush. I would drive the route at your actual shift time before buying.

What does it cost to live near the airport?

The closest cities are some of the more affordable in the metro. Recent medians run from around $279K in East Point and $295K in Union City to around $356K in College Park. Fayette County runs higher, with Peachtree City around $590K.
